Today's Olympics Country Profile: Spain

Espana

As London prepares for the 2012 Olympics, Team looks at some of the cities that previously hosted the Olympics. Today, we visit Barcelona, the site of the 1992 Summer Olympic Games where 162 nations sent their athletes to compete. This included, for the first time, Croatia, Slovenia and Bosnia-Herzegovina competing as independent nations after separation from Socialist Yugoslavia. It was also the first Olympics since 1964 that a unified Germany competed at the Olympics.

Today's Olympics Country Profile: Greece

As London prepares for the 2012 Olympics, Team looks at some of the cities that previously hosted the Olympics. Today, we’re off to Athens who hosted the Olympic Games in 2004. The return of The Games to Athens was highly significant, since Greece was the birthplace of the ancient games more than 2,000 years ago; and Athens was the home of the first modern Olympic Games in 1896.

Today's Olympics Country Profile: Australia

 
As London prepares for the 2012 Olympics, Team looks at some of the cities that previously hosted the Olympics. Twelve years ago, the Olympic Games, also known as the Millennium Games, were held in Sydney, Australia. A record of 199 nations entered the stadium, with a record 80 of them winning at least one medal.

Today's Olympics Country Profile: China

As London prepares for the 2012 Olympics, Team looks at some of the cities that previously hosted the Olympics. Today, we’re off to Beijing (formerly named Peking) who hosted the Olympic Games in 2008. The National Stadium was nicknamed “the bird’s nest” and occupied 1000 acres in northern Beijing with at least 18 sports venues!
