BRAZIL: New regulation issued for foreign employees on local contracts

The Ministry of Labor in Brazil has implemented a new regulation that redefines rules for issuance of work booklets for foreign employees on local payroll. The regulation applies to all Temporary Residence (Work Visas) and other work visas that require local payroll admission. Certain details will still need to be confirmed, therefore delays in issuance of foreign employees’ ID cards at the Federal Police are expected due to updates that will be made to the registration system. As a result, this will delay the issuance of work booklets and enrolling foreign employees on local payroll.

How does this affect the client?

Employees may experience delays in obtaining their ID cards which are complicating the issuance of work booklets and local payroll admission. Employers should expect business schedules and start dates to be affected by delays and may need to re-submit documents to complete the registration requirements and remain compliant with labour and immigration laws.
