CHINA: Biometric registration required

Foreign nationals, between 14 and 70 years old who are travelling to China, are now required to register their biometric information upon arrival. The fingerprints and facial scans should be submitted at self-help kiosks at the port of entry and the receipts must be shown to border inspectors for verification.

This rule has started to be enforced with a pilot program in Shenzhen since February 2017, and now is being gradually rolled out to other cities, such as Shanghai and Guangzhou.

Some persons may be exempt form this requirement, such as: diplomatic passport holders, travellers in transit who do not leave the airport, nationals of countries with reciprocal arrangements with China and those who previously registered their biometric data in China.
