THE NETHERLANDS: Period required for Naturalisation unchanged

First Chamber of the Dutch Parliament rejected a bill regarding the period required for naturalisation.

How Does This Affect the Client?

The rejected Bill proposed to increase the period of stay required for naturalization from 5 to 7 years. As the First Chamber of the Dutch Parliament rejected this Bill, this proposed change is now cancelled. It will also remain possible for spouses of Dutch nationals living abroad to naturalize when they are living in any country other than the country of their own nationality. Dutch nationals who do not renew their passport on time and live outside of the Netherlands will after 10 years automatically lose their Dutch nationality.
