SAUDI ARABIA: Labour market testing requirement rescinded

In 2016, the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Labour and Social Development introduced the Labour Market Test Requirement. This prerequisite required employers to first search locally for viable candidates, by posting their vacancies on the labour portal, Taqat. Only once this requirement was fulfilled did an employer become eligible to apply for a block visa.

The Ministry of Labour has now decided to rescind the Labour Market Test Requirement, allowing employers to apply for a Block Visa immediately.

How does this affect the client?

  • Employers should now apply for a block visa immediately
  • The duration of the visa application process will be reduced
  • Foreign hires should be able to start working sooner
