SAUDI ARABIA: Rental housing registration required for work permit

As of September 2018, in order to obtain or renew a work permit in Saudi Arabia, foreign nationals must have their house rental contract authenticated and registered with the Ejar network.

This Council of Ministers’ decision, first issued in February 2017, is now implemented, making it mandatory for the Labor Ministry to require this documentation before issuing or renewing work permits.

Foreign nationals can complete this process using a form available through Ejar, and must be completed prior to applying for their work permit or extension.

This process is introduced to reduce the number of landlord-tenant disputes and create a uniform procedure.

How does this affect the client?

Employers should anticipate additional time to the general work permit application process.
