SINGAPORE: New account to be implemented for online transactions with the government

Effective December 2017 a new account will be used for transacting with the Ministry of Manpower in Singapore. The Singapore Corporate Access (CorpPass) account will be implemented in place of the current SingPass or EASY in order to access the Ministry of Manpower’s online portals.

CorpPass will act as a digital identity for businesses and other types of entities that interact with the Government in Singapore and will replace the current multiple digital identities that are required to access the online portals. It is hoped that this will increase security as different levels of access can be granted to users on just one account instead of having multiple logins via different accounts.

Registration for the CorpPass is free and eligible companies should register as soon as possible since it can take between 1 to 5 working days to become active. Both local entities (registered with a Unique Entity Number) and foreign entities are eligible for registration, although registration for foreign entities will begin only in 2018.

How does this affect the client?

Transactions should become more efficient and convenient since only one account and one login will be required to access the online portals. Employers will also be able to exercise better control since levels of access can be granted and CorpPass will be a company account not an individual account on behalf of the company like the current SingPass.
