SWITZERLAND: Safeguard clause for Bulgarian and Romanian nationals extended

On 18 April 2018, the Swiss Federal Council has announced that the safeguard clause for Bulgarian and Romanian nationals (EU-2) is going to be extended. Based on this decision, long-term B permits for EU-2 will be restricted for an additional year.

Additionally, maximum numbers for short-term L permits would be reintroduced if the threshold set in the bilateral Agreement on the Free Movement of Persons with the EU were to be reached by 31 May 2018.

The corresponding adjustments are expected to be passed to the ordinances at the beginning of May.

How does this affect the client?

Companies planning to hire Bulgarian or Romanian nationals in Switzerland should submit permit applications in good time to avoid issues.
