BRAZIL: Residence renewal requirements relaxed

The Ministry of Labour has announced that current resident visa holders applying for residence renewal in Brazil are no longer required to present a legalised and translated police clearance certificate from all the countries where they have lived in the last five years.  Now, these applicants must provide a certificate of criminal record issued by the Brazilian police.

How does this affect the client?

This new relaxed requirement eliminates the need for applicants to travel to countries, where police clearance certificates can only be arranged in person. This new regulation should result in a quicker and simpler application process.

This regulation does not apply to foreign nationals, residing in Brazil on visitor permits, who are required to produce a legalised, certificate from each country of residence over the past five years.
