MIDDLE EAST: Restricted travel imposed on Qatar

On 5 June 2017, several Arab countries – Bahrain, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Yemen– have severed diplomatic ties with Qatar, alleging Qatar has been supporting extremist groups. The countries imposed an entry, residency and transit ban for all Qatari nationals and announced a withdrawal of their diplomatic staff from Qatar. Qatari nationals must leave Bahrain and the UAE within 14 days of 5 June 2017.  The airspace as well as all land and marine borders with Qatar have been closed.

How does this affect the client?

The situation is evolving and may change rapidly. Considering its nature, other restrictions may be imposed if the diplomatic disputes escalate. Employers sending workers to Qatar are advised to rearrange business schedules as disruptions are expected.
