NIGERIA: Increased audits of oil and gas companies

In order to enforce compliance with expatriate quotas, the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board is conducting audits of companies in the oil and gas sector.

The board has been monitoring the oil and gas industry for non-compliant deployment of expatriates for a while, but has recently increased the number of audits that it is conducting.

For employers, it is important to note that the board has historically focused on the accuracy of succession plans when measuring compliance.

How does this affect the client?

It is advisable that employers maintain accurate and up-to-date succession plans, documents such as registration on the board’s portal and a list of expatriate positions that have been approved by the board. During audits, additional documents may be requested.
