SINGAPORE:  New 'Work Pass' system introduced

An innovative new initiative is being developed by the Ministry of Manpower in Singapore, the body responsible for immigration.

The idea is for the current Work Pass to be updated using a new system by the end of June 2018.

Currently, details such as the expiry date are visible on the physical card, but once implementation is complete these details will be removed from the card and available instead via a new mobile app and web service.

The Ministry of Manpower hope that the new system will help to enhance security and ensure card authenticity.

How does this affect the client?

Employers should be aware of the change and ensure that all foreign nationals receive the updated card in a timely manner to avoid any issues with immigration. Ultimately it will save time for the foreign nationals in an extension process, since the card will not need to be replaced.
