SPAIN: Residence card applicants required to appear in person at the police station

Fast track residence card and Número de Extranjero (NIE) certificate applicants in Madrid must now appear in person at the police station to obtain a number for the application submission.

Only the first 30 applicants who arrive at the station receive a number. Foreign nationals who do not receive an application number cannot apply. Numbers will only be given to the individual applying for residence card, not third-party representatives.

The new procedure has been put into place to balance the workload.

How does this affect the client?

Applicants should be prepared to arrive at the police station early in the morning and stay in line for a few hours before the opening. They should also take into account the possibility of having to return another day if they are not among the first 30 customers.
